Yanga Nongauza’s Story – Aneurysm During Pregnancy

In this blog Yanga Nongauza shares her experience discovering an unruptured aneurysm while 38 weeks pregnant.

“On the 20th of June 2021 at 01H00 I woke up with the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life. I was 38 weeks pregnant and due for my c-section the next day. I immediately knew there was something wrong & my partner rushed me to the ER, I had an MRI scan and they discovered the 7mm aneurysm (un-ruptured). I was transferred to another hospital where I had the cardiovascular coiling done, only the next morning. 2 days after, I then had my c-section. Baby came out fine and I was okay, just had severe headache and sensitivity to light. All I remember was seeing my baby but not clearly as I had double vision. I woke up after a week or 2 weeks and I was told I’ve been having multiple seizures. I was then diagnosed with epilepsy which I am taking medication for. I still get seizures.

I also had to undergo a strabismus surgery in July this year as the aneurysm affected my 3rd nerve.

I am trying to get my life back slowly & I am still recovering. It’s not easy but I thank God I’m alive and able to share my story.
