Date: Saturday, September 28th, 2024
Location: Mount Pleasant, SC
On a beautiful Saturday morning, participants gathered in Mount Pleasant, SC, to join Tricia Scobey for the inaugural “Legacy” Run/Walk as well as virtually in New Jersey. This event was more than just a race; it was a testament to Tricia’s strength and resilience as a brain aneurysm rupture survivor and her unwavering commitment to raising awareness and supporting research.
Tricia’s Story: A Journey of Survival
Tricia Scobey is one of the rare survivors of a brain aneurysm rupture. Her journey began in November 2020, when she suffered a life-threatening rupture that led to three brain surgeries, two exploratory procedures, and countless scans and doctor appointments. Despite the odds, Tricia emerged from this harrowing experience with minimal deficits, a true rarity in the world of brain aneurysms.
In her own words, Tricia says, “I am one of the lucky ones. It is my belief that no one should have to go through this. Unlike most people, I survived my rupture and have minimal deficits as a result, a rarity in itself.”
The Bee Foundation has empowered Tricia to use her voice to make a difference. The “Legacy” Run/Walk was her way of giving back, raising awareness, and supporting research that could prevent others from enduring the same ordeal. Tricia’s hope is that her survival story becomes the norm, rather than the exception.
A Day of Unity and Purpose
The “Legacy” & “Brain Fart” Run/Walk began at 9:00 AM, with participants arriving early to pick up their swag bags and commemorative tee-shirts. The event featured a scenic 5K RUN / 1M WALK loop through the picturesque surroundings of Mount Pleasant. The atmosphere was inclusive and welcoming, with runners, walkers, and supporters of all ages coming together to support this important cause.
For those unable to participate in person, Tricia encouraged everyone to join her “Legacy” team in spirit, as the event also extended to those in New Jersey and other parts of the country, uniting supporters from near and far in the fight against brain aneurysms.
Making a Difference Together
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of all who participated and donated, the Tricia Scobey “Legacy” & “Brain Fart” Run/Walk raised $11,500 for The Bee Foundation. Every dollar raised will go directly toward funding research and increasing awareness, helping to save lives and prevent the devastating impact of brain aneurysms.
