The weather was perfect on October 12th when 112 golfers teed off at the Union Club’s expansive golf course at Liberty Hill for The Bee Foundations Fall Classic Golf Gala. The golf outing was one of the most successful TBF events ever, with almost $300,00 raised through sponsorships, registrations, auction and merchandise sales, and an energetic paddle raise.
The golfers enjoyed a great day on the course, while also taking in Brain Aneurysm statistics as each hole and were then joined by additional attendees for a cocktail hour and dinner where event attendees heard from an impressive lineup of speakers.
The newest member of the TBF SAB – Dr. Jan-Karl Burckhardt, gave an update on TBF’s research grants and announced TBF’s 2021 $25,000 grantee. Zac Yezzi, a recent survivor, advocate and fundraiser, (Click here to see Zac’s fundraiser) shared his recent experiences after suffering a AVM, ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke while exploring wedding venues on St. Bart’s. Zac credits his survival and recovery to the intervention of a remarkable collaboration of TBF experts: Dr. Pascal Jabbour, of Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and Dr. J. Mocco of Mt. Sinai, both members of TBF’s SAB, surgery from Dr. Robert Starke, a previous TBF grantee, at the University of Miami and followup from Dr. Chris Kellner at New York’s Mount Sinai, the lead on TBF’s economic research fellowship. Drs. Starkeand Jabbour were in attendance at the event to share their thoughts about the challenging aspects of an extremely high risk situation and to celebrate the successful outcome with Zac, Ainsley, their families and the TBF community.
Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed a Cornerstone raw bar and hand selected wines from Christine Kondra, co-founder of TBF and Co-Owner and Wine Director of Cornerstone Bistro. And, the $30,000 Putting Contest was a nail biter, as one of our favorite supporters just missed the hole, but walked off the green with a smile.
Thank you to everyone who made this evening a tremendous success!
