3 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FROM DR CHEN ABOUT THE AWARD WINNER
1. What makes this award winner’s research so innovative?
This year’s award winner uses the tremendous amount of data acquired during brain vessel imaging to develop sophisticated models that help predict the risk of brain aneurysm rupture.
2. Where could this research lead?
We were excited at the prospect of developing more accurate methods of predicting the natural history of brain aneurysms that have no yet ruptured or caused symptoms. With the current widespread use and availability of brain vessel imaging many brain aneurysms are being detected but very little is known as to accurately determining or predicting which will eventually rupture. Many brain aneurysms never rupture. This year’s recipient has developed a thoughtful, potentially powerful tool that may significantly help our ability to estimate future risk.
