Kirsten Storms is sharing an update on her health battle.

The General Hospital star—who has been on a break from the soap opera—shared that she was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm in January and is set to soon undergo surgery to treat it. The ailment—a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain that becomes life-threatening if it bursts, per the National Library of Medicine—was discovered three years after she underwent a craniotomy to remove a cyst.

“The January scan happened because I had symptoms that the doctors thought could’ve been brain related,” Storms wrote on Instagram Oct. 13. “Ok – when I say that I was shocked when the doctors told me they found an aneurysm on the right side of my brain…welp, I basically launched into a standup comedy routine.”

Unfortunately, doctors were not able to immediately treat the aneurysm after discovering it.

“I had a procedure done that weekend, where the doctor thread a camera from my leg up to my brain,” the 41-year-old said. “Anyway, because of the *slightly* complex situation with the aneurysm (nothing bad, just not typical), it wasn’t coiled that weekend.”

As the Days of Our Lives alum waits to undergo the minimally invasive coiling procedure—aimed at blocking blood flow to the aneurysm—she is relying on her loved ones, including her costar Emme Rylan, for emotional support.

“Here I am with Emme, in St. Louis,” she wrote, “and we are crocheting the most beautiful sweaters, while my coiling procedure is being scheduled for sometime in the next 2 weeks.”

The Zenon alum also shared that the aneurysm wasn’t the only diagnosis she received, and the health scare prompted her to make a major life decision: Leave California.

“Since the January scan showed a new, but *very small*, squatter (aka cyst) on my brain stem – it was clear I needed [to] change some things in my life asap,” she wrote. “For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me.”

“The biggest reason for the move was Harper,” she said, referring to her and ex Brandon Barash‘s 11-year-old daughter, “but a lot of it was for my physical and mental health. And my overall happiness.”

In this new chapter, she’s learning to block out the noise, including rumors about her health.

“There are a few really bad apples out there. We all know that,” she wrote, “but there are people in my life who I am truly thankful to know. One of those individuals just made a s–t load of sweaters with me. They are glorious.”
