On Saturday, September 8th, the Annie Mirra Memorial Run/Walk brought together family, friends, and community members to honor the memory of Annie Mirra, a beloved nurse who tragically lost her life in 2020 at just 29 years old due to complications from brain aneurysm surgery. The event, held at the picturesque Jennings Beach in Fairfield County, Connecticut, was a heartfelt tribute to Annie’s life and legacy, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness for brain aneurysm research and prevention.
Annie Mirra’s Story: A Life of Compassion and Service
Annie dedicated her entire life to helping others, always going above and beyond for anyone in need. As a professional nurse, she cared for her patients on a deeply personal level, treating them not just as patients but as friends. Her compassionate nature and selflessness were evident in every aspect of her life, including her final act of generosity—donating her organs to save others.
Though it was a stroke of fate that led to the discovery of Annie’s aneurysm, she faced the life-threatening diagnosis with the pragmatism of a nurse, focusing on the facts and taking the necessary steps to confront the situation head-on. Annie’s strength, courage, and selflessness continue to inspire those who knew her, and she is missed every single day.
A Day of Remembrance and Community
The memorial run/walk began with a gathering at 9:00 AM for registration, where participants picked up their commemorative tee-shirts and swag bags. The atmosphere was one of inclusivity and warmth, as friends, family, and supporters of all ages and abilities came together to remember Annie and support The Bee Foundation’s mission.

At 10:00 AM, the event officially kicked off. Participants set out on a scenic route along Jennings Beach, taking in the beautiful surroundings while reflecting on Annie’s life and the importance of brain aneurysm awareness. Whether running, walking, or participating virtually, everyone was united by a shared purpose: to honor Annie’s memory and to contribute to the fight against brain aneurysms.
The sense of community was palpable throughout the event. Laughter, tears, and heartfelt conversations filled the air as participants shared their memories of Annie and their hopes for a future where brain aneurysms are more widely understood and more effectively treated.
